Langham Court Theatre, the longest running community theatre in Western Canada, has celebrated the art and practice of community theatre since 1929, with over 27,000 volunteers presenting more than 500 shows to 250,000 patrons.
Offering five quality Langham productions per year, this welcoming and vibrant community theatre is also a strong supporter of local arts groups. In the past year, Langham has worked with Reconciliation Theatre, Lifetime Networks’ Theatre Troupe, The Victoria Festival of Authors, Target Theatre, Attitude Theatre, Lawyers on Stage, Flamenco de la Isla, Central Middle School and more.
In addition, Langham has initiated fundraising events in support of organizations such as Help Ukraine Vancouver Island, the Red Cross Türkiye & Syria Earthquake Appeal, and the Mustard Seed.
Looking to the future, Langham believes in inspiring young actors and volunteers, offering workshops and mentorship in theatre craft, as well as housing the Victoria Academy of Dramatic Arts, which provides professional training for film and television.
Further, Langham offers its lounge for art displays by local artists and provides service to the community with its popular Costume Loft, which is open for rentals for stage and film productions. Featuring vintage and contemporary costumes, accessories, jewellery, hats, bags, shoes, and more, the collection is also available to the public for themed events, gala affairs, Halloween, etc. In addition, Langham rents props and furniture to various community arts groups.
But Langham’s most valuable asset is its many dedicated Langham volunteers – on stage and behind the scenes, producing, directing, stage managing, building, painting, sewing, gardening, hosting, ushering, serving at the bar, or working in the costume loft. Volunteering their time, energy and talent, their commitment to Langham and their enthusiasm for creating engaging community theatre is truly inspiring, and adds to the vibrancy and vitality of the Victoria arts community.
