StageStruck 2020 Summer Youth Theatre Program – CANCELLED
It is with a heavy heart I write you to let you know that we have made the extremely difficult decision to cancel our StageStruck summer theatre camp this July 2020. While probably not a surprise for most of you, I do acknowledge all of our disappointment amidst the circumstances that have led to this decision.
I and the entire StageStruck team discussed this at length. We thought long and hard about how to bring the feeling of our camp together, while keeping everyone safe. Perhaps a balance of online, and small group work in person etc, however we quickly reflected about what it is that makes StageStruck so unique and special. It is the devising theatre we do in person, inside Langham Court Theatre. It is the bubbling over with ideas, talking all at once, the chaos that becomes form. It is the opening up voices and building our experience from the ground up to our performance, that sets us apart and keeps all of us so inspired to come back year after year.
We simply found we were not able to move this into an online experience that felt authentic and true to our program with the restrictions Covid 19 has presented.
That said, this is just a pause. We will be back, and we will spend this year contemplating the future so our program continues to thrive and grow. To continue to offer youth an opportunity to use their voices and talents to create a show that is all theirs. To be back together under the roof of Langham Court Theatre where we make magic together.
I hope this letter finds you all well. Please know you are all in our hearts and we will miss you terribly over this summer.
Thanks to Michelle Buck and Langham Court for giving us the time needed to make a decision after weighing all the options, and supporting this decision completely.
Art will continue to blossom, and I look forward to the day I am writing to give you the dates of our next StageStruck theatre camp. Until then, be well everyone.
