Langham Court Theatre Membership Update – June 2021
Hello Langham Court Theatre Members,
Happy June!
Which is to say – Happy Indigenous People’s History Month! Happy Pride Month! And, happy Filipinx Heritage Month. Join us in celebrating these communities and peoples.
We are reaching out with some updates from the Board and Staff.
ICA’s Tools for Equity
Once again, we extend our thanks to all those who participated in the ICA Equity Audit, both the survey and interview portions. The ICA was pleased that we received a large number of responses! Thank you for your investment in this process, and for your patience while everyone has been hard at work analyzing and compiling the data.
The ICA is now ready to present their findings and propose recommendations for the society’s next steps. This data will be presented by Paulina Grainger and the ICA in a session on Monday June 27th, from 6-9 pm.
This presentation is a part of the ongoing Tools For Equity training workshops, however, we want to open this session to any community members who wish to attend. Even if you have been unable to participate in the previous workshops, you are welcome to join us and listen to this presentation. The zoom link for this session can be found below:

The next series of training workshops will focus on Bystander Intervention. Dates will be announced shortly.
On July 3, 2020, under the leadership of the past board, the society cancelled the 2020-21 season and publicly committed that as a membership, we must “focus our attention on educating ourselves, reshaping our mandate, and listening to and elevating new voices that need to be heard within our community.” We thank them for beginning this process, and it is good to remember that the commitment made was to ensure this anti-racism training would be completed prior to resuming any creative activities. This unfortunately did not occur.
The current Board is happy to be continuing this commitment to ensure the society upholds our stated values, expands our collective knowledge of inequitable systems, and properly addresses the skill-building necessary to reach our equity goals.
The Equity Audit results will be our guide to begin this work together.
Get Involved!
Please join us in shaping the future of this theatre. It’s time to select a 2022-23 Season and hire a permanent GM.
Committee work is gearing up! A big thank you to all that have expressed interest and gotten involved. There is always room for more participants, so if you would like to put your name forward, we would love to hear from you.
These committees include:
- A Human Resources Committee co-chaired by Ana de Lara and Erica Petty
- A Strategic Directions Committee co-chaired by Emilee Nimetz and Ingrid Moore
- A Play Selection Committee co-chaired by Monica Ogden and Ana de Lara
If you are interested in participating in any of these committees, or want to suggest another committee to convene, please reach out to: gm@langhamtheatre.ca
A Call for Theatre Presenters
Want to put your show up at Langham? In the midst of our season planning, we are working hard to create a schedule that allows us to share the stage with local community groups, especially QT2BIPOC and disabled creative leaders. There’s been a strong interest from the community to present their work at Langham. We feel grateful to be in the position to balance what it takes to create our own Langham Court Theatre productions, with the need for performance venues within our community. We should be proud to have built a well-resourced and financially secure organization that is in a position to give back!
We invite local theatre organizations, big and small, to reach out to us to pitch their productions and presentation timelines. Don’t hesitate to tell us your barriers to putting your work on the stage, such as limited budgets, accessibility needs, or needs for workshop building space, etc. Work is underway to make our space more accessible than ever, including a ramp that’s being built for wheelchair access to the stage.
Auditorium space and time for presenters will be extremely limited.
Send your rental requests and presentation ideas to:

Costume Sale Delayed
The Costume Loft staff and volunteers have advised us that we have not received enough costume donations to hold a sale this summer. The current stock will be held over until there is enough inventory to hold a sale. Stay tuned for future fundraising activities and sales.
Thank you to the Garden and Costume Loft Volunteers
We extend our gratitude to all the volunteers who help keep our spaces beautiful, growing and moving forward in bloom. Thank you for your work.
Wishing you a happy beginning to your summer,
The Board of Directors + Langham Court Theatre Staff
