Langham Court Theatre Society respectfuly acknowledges that we are on Coast Salish land. We work, listen, learn, create, and grow on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen people, now known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
For more than 90 years, the Langham Court Theatre Society (formerly The Victoria Theatre Guild and Dramatic School) has been producing engaging and high quality theatre with dedicated actors and creative teams. Since 1929 over 27,000 volunteers have presented nearly 3,000 performances using over 4,000 actors in more than 500 shows to 250,000 patrons. This is community theatre at its best offering 6 productions per year that are a mix of traditional and modern works.
Thanks to the current complement of members, audience support and experienced staff, Langham Court Theatre continues to be one of Western Canada’s community theatre success stories.
The theatre itself is a charming surprise tucked away in the residential Rockland neighbourhood near the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and Lieutenant Governor’s residence. The theatre seats 175 people and offers a licensed lounge used at intermission and for receptions.
The original buildings (c.1880) were the carriage house and barn of the Robert Ward family estate on elite Belcher Street (now Rockland Ave). Over the years they have changed hands several times and been part of The Collegiate School for Boys, part of St. George’s School for Girls, a meeting hall and the home of the 1930 Victoria Operatic Society. In 1938-40 the buildings were changed to a fully functional theatre known as The Victoria Little Theatre & Dramatic School. Several renovations over the years since have created the wonderful theatre that is used throughout the year today.
